Like most copywriters, I’d been wanting to work on a bar code scanning account for quite a while. When Everett, Wash.-based industry leader Intermec wanted to launch its new line of near-and-far, omnidirectional, 1D-to-2D scanners and handheld computers, I knew my time had come.
Intermec wanted to go viral, which to me could only mean one thing: low production values. We get some real warehouse guys, give them a video camera and some cool new products, and let them go nuts.
I was overruled, though. We ended up hiring real actors and a real crew. But I did get to go to Everett.
