This is what happens when Wunderman Thompson sends out a “lightning brief.” Another agency had shat the bed with their concepts for some :30 spots and we had a chance to swoop in. Call went out to the creative team to submit ideas. We had two days to brainstorm. I submitted two ideas and one of them made the cut. The production was even crazier. Reindeer. Fired Santas. The final result ended up quite different from my original idea so here’s what I submitted, plus the final cut below. Decide for yourself which is better.
Peace on Earth
Open on a beautiful winter morning, a lovely house blanketed in snow. Nothing but the sound of the breeze, maybe some (non-migratory) birds. The sun is barely up. We have your attention because it’s so quiet, so calm. Camera pans around for beauty shots of the house and grounds and we see the Outdoor camera perfectly placed, more like an architectural feature than a mere device. Transition to interior shot. As we pass by/through the front door we see the Blink Doorbell.
The halls are decked. Inside it’s just as calm and quiet. More so. Maybe a fire is just starting to crackle. No one is up yet. Maybe there’s someone almost off-camera bringing a fire to life in the fireplace. We walk through the main floor—there’s a beautifully decorated tree, there are many gifts—focusing on the Indoor and Compact Indoor cameras as we do.
As we return to the living room, kids have come downstairs, maybe the other parent, so the whole family is here and they’re enjoying the quiet, rubbing sleep from their eyes, saying good morning with a hug, cuddling on the couch by the fire. Maybe some hot chocolate appears. A hundred percent there’s a dog. As the tableau settles in before your eyes you can feel your blood pressure drop, you want to hug your own family, and whatever there might be to forgive is forgiven.
